Dear Dharma Friends,

After his 2026 teaching tour, at the beginning of 2027, our beloved Resident Teacher, Geshe Thubten Sherab, will enter a three-year retreat – a precious opportunity for deep practice that will benefit all beings.

For those who feel moved to support Geshe la during this time, you can contribute through practice or financial support. Details are provided below.

Even a single mantra or dollar offered with dedication creates a beautiful connection, plants seeds for your own future practice, and generates boundless merit. When we come together as a sangha, each small contribution becomes part of something much greater.

With warm wishes and gratitude,

The Buddhist Center Thubten Norbu Ling

Find out more about Geshe Sherab

Geshe Thubten Sherab was born in 1967 in a very small village in the province of Manang, located in the western part of Nepal. His parents, wishing to accumulate merit, sought to have him join the monastery, and he was accepted at Kopan Monastery by Lama Yeshe. He studied for his Geshe degree at Sera Je Monastery from 1987 to 2000, drawing great inspiration from revered teachers, including Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche, by observing their practice and daily lives.

After completing his studies and a year at Gyume Tantric College, he spent two and a half years in the United States, assisting FPMT’s International Office and teaching in places like Taos and Santa Fe, before deciding to return to Nepal. This is how Geshe la’s adventure with New Mexico and The Buddhist Center Thubten Norbu Ling started. After serving as the headmaster of the Mount Everest School at Kopan Monastery in Nepal,  and acting abbot of Kopan Monastery, Geshe la returned to Santa Fe in 2014 to become our resident teacher. Geshe la plans to enter a long retreat in 2027.

Geshe Thubten Sherab consistently emphasizes the importance of integrating one’s study and practice and encourages students to follow the constant advice of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Lama Zopa Rinpoche by integrating both elements for balanced spiritual growth for the benefit of all.
